Review
Ladies and gentlemen, gather round for I have the most delightful news to share with you all. It is an absolute truth that a new movie has graced our screens and hearts – “Credimi!”.
This exquisite movie is centered around the life of a young woman named Sophia who is left with no other option than to become a governess after her father’s death. Her journey begins as she travels to the grand estate of Mr. Brown where she meets his two precious daughters, Mary and Jane Brown.
As any Austenite would predict, Sophia’s life takes an unexpected turn when she falls in love with one of her employer’s friends, Mr. Henry Dashwood. The man who causes her heart to flutter is handsome, charming and wealthy but unfortunately, he is promised to another woman.
The storyline may seem familiar but do believe me when I say that writer-director Edoardo Natoli has given this classic tale an alluring twist that will leave you captivated till the very end.
In addition to its intriguing plot, “Credimi!” boasts an exceptional cast who bring their respective characters to life impeccably. The ravishing Martina Betti plays Sophia flawlessly; showcasing her strength, grace and wit throughout the film. Likewise, Giuseppe Cucca as Mr. Henry Dashwood is equally appealing; his portrayal of the charismatic gentleman will undoubtedly leave you swooning.
It would be unjust not to credit supporting actors Roberto Attanasio and Loredana Gulino for their remarkable performances as well. Attanasio delivers an outstanding performance as Mr.Brown displaying both warmth and surprise while Gulino sparks energy into every scene where she appears as Mrs.Fortebraccio- a wealthy rival trying her best to lure Henry into marriage.
One cannot speak about this masterpiece without mentioning its soundtrack composed by Francesco Santalucia that features romantic scores that enhance every emotion portrayed throughout each scene; its marvelous arrangements complements the film’s overall aesthetic impeccably.
The cinematography in “Credimi!” is a work of art. The camera captures the beauty of Italy’s landscapes and architecture with elegance. The scenery is breathtaking, and the shots are framed in such a way that one would feel as if they were living in the moment.
Despite its classic storyline, “Credimi!” is by no means predictable. The unexpected twists and turns throughout the film will keep you on edge from beginning to end. The witty dialogues sprinkled throughout have a certain Austen charm that will make you laugh out loud.
As I watched this film my heart raced and fluttered with excitement as I saw Sophia’s journey unfold on screen. I must say, it was a unique pleasure to see a heroine so strong and independent but also vulnerable in such an important role even in today’s era where women empowerment has become prominent.
This remarkable movie has already garnered several awards including a Best Actress nod for Martina Betti at the International Film Festival of Rome 2020. And I assure you ladies and gentlemen, there will be many more accolades coming its way!
Before I forget, do allow me to humor you with some gossip about the filming process. Rumor has it that while shooting one of the more romantic scenes between Martina Betti (Sophia) and Giuseppe Cucca (Mr.Dashwood), sparks flew off-screen as well! Apparently, their undeniable chemistry led to a budding romance off-screen.
In conclusion, my dear readers, “Credimi!” should be at the top of your watch list for all fans of Jane Austen or rom-coms alike. It is a charming story brought to life with exceptional acting performances; enchanting soundtrack and breathtaking scenery – you won’t be disappointed!
