Purity Falls: A Tale of Love and Deceit in Jane Austen Style
In the town of Purity Falls, where manners were everything, a young woman named Elizabeth had just come into her inheritance. But with it came the challenge of finding a suitable match, and Elizabeth was determined to choose wisely. Her father had always been insistent on her marrying well and she didn’t want to let him down.
It wasn’t long before she met a charming gentleman named John. They were immediately drawn to each other and seemed destined for happiness. But soon after their courtship began, Elizabeth began to hear rumors about John’s past. He had allegedly been involved in unsavory business dealings and was known to be deceitful.
Elizabeth didn’t know what to believe, but her heart couldn’t let go of John so easily. She turned to her trusted friend Charlotte for advice, but even Charlotte was conflicted.
Meanwhile, Mr. Collins, the local clergyman, had set his sights on Elizabeth as his potential bride. He was an awkward man with little charm or appeal but he saw Elizabeth’s inheritance as an opportunity too good to pass up.

From the moment the movie opens with breathtaking shots of rolling hills and picturesque countryside, viewers are transported to a time when manners were everything. The cast does an excellent job of bringing to life the customs of the era, right down to their elaborate costumes.
The dialogue is sharp and witty, reminiscent of Austen’s writing style. The love scenes are swoon-worthy, while tension builds between characters that keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
One particular scene that stands out is when Elizabeth confronts John about his past. It’s a powerful exchange that showcases both actor’s abilities. It’s a testament to Irvin’s direction that he was able to get such an emotional performance from his stars.
The score is composed by Alan Ari Lazar who is known for his work on Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet (2014) and he infuses each scene with just the right amount of emotion without being overbearing. It perfectly complements the cinematography which captures scenic backdrops in stunning detail.
Despite its superficial similarities to Jane Austen’s works, Purity Falls has its own unique voice. It dares to go into darker territory than most period dramas, and it does so with elegance and grace. However, at times it feels like it has too much going on under one roof which distracts from its main storyline.
Overall Purity Falls is an engaging historical drama set in a picturesque town where social status reigns supreme. Its talented cast brings depth to complex characters whose lives are intertwined in unexpected ways. Its excellent direction coupled with its sharp script makes it a film worth watching for anyone who loves tales of love, drama, deceit and scandal set against stunning period backdrops in true Jane Austen style.
