In the world of Japanese horror, few films can compare to the sheer chaos and innovation of Tetsuo II: Body Hammer. Directed by Shinya Tsukamoto, this movie is a sequel to his previous work, Tetsuo: The Iron Man. But while the first film was a low-budget indie flick with a cult following, Body Hammer takes everything to the next level.
Released in 1992, Body Hammer tells the story of a man named Taniguchi (played by Tomorowo Taguchi) who becomes possessed by an evil metal entity. Along with his wife and son, he becomes embroiled in a battle between rival gangs that ultimately leads him down a terrifying path.
At its core, Body Hammer is a fever dream of industrial music and cyberpunk aesthetics. The film’s soundtrack is an assault on the senses, with thumping drums and distorted guitar riffs that perfectly capture the madness onscreen.
